Introduction

Kashmir Education Association Inc. ( KEA )is a non-profit organization, with the aim of promoting education in rural areas of Pakistan. The goal is raise funds through donations and fund raising activities. These would then be utilized towards establishment of primary and secondary schools and teachers training centres to promote education.

KEA has teamed up with an established charitable organization, Kashmir Education Foundation (KEF), in Pakistan. KEF has been working as a charity for past 17 years. Starting from a single primary school, it has now established more than 5 primary, middle and secondary schools. It also finances the students at its schools who are unable to afford education at its schools. In recognition of the fact that trained teachers are in short supply in Pakistan, the foundation has also set up two Teachers Training Institutes, with the help of Voluntary Service Organization, a UK based charity. VSO volunteers train the teachers who go on to teach at the Foundation's schools. Furthermore, the Teacher's training institutes have won accreditation from Bahria University (Islamabad) and Gloucester University (UK).

Education is a right, not a privilege

Given the high cost of private education in Pakistan, one of the key goals of KEF has been to ensure that all eligible students can undertake education at their schools, irrespective of their parent's ability to pay school fees. In this regard, a portion of all contributions is used to provide scholarships or bursaries to students.

KEA will be donating a major portion of any funds raised in Canada to support KEF in its activities.
